Did you know … three out of four Canadians (75%) visit the dentist at least once a year and 84% of people believe they have good or excellent oral health, according to a Canadian Dental Association report.
In order to ward off cavities, gum disease, and serious health conditions, it’s imperative to visit your dentist regularly and practice good oral hygiene at home.
In this blog, we’ll explain how we’ll look out for your smile with preventive dentistry …
- Don’t miss your prophylaxis appointment! During this preventive visit, we will provide a checkup and routine cleaning. It’s critical we remove bacterial plaque that has hardened into yellowish tartar. It’s something you can’t remove on your own by brushing or flossing. A final polish will help your mouth look and feel clean. Our hygienist will update your medical records and x-rays will be taken, if necessary. We can detect problems early on during this visit.
- Periodontal maintenance. Often, cavity-free patients who complete a prophy appointment don’t think they have to worry about their oral health. That’s a mistake! Perio maintenance ensures that the area hidden under your gumline remains healthy. We can help prevent the progression of existing gum disease, loss of teeth, supporting ligaments, and jawbone, and prevent the need for more extensive periodontal care.
- Start early. When it comes to your children’s smiles, exams and cleanings are a great way to look out for the future of their oral health. After a cleaning, we may recommend a fluoride varnish to prevent tooth decay before it starts. If their teeth are misaligned, we can correct this over time with traditional braces or Invisalign®.
